A conversion of 2 large apartments into 1 unit for a family who sought flexibility in the way they use and configure their spaces

An English hedge fund manager who entertains extensively and has frequent guests was looking for two adjoining apartments they could convert into a single larger apartment. We assisted the couple in their search and together found two apartments facing onto the Hudson River with dramatic views of Manhattan. Together, the apartments formed one 3,200 square foot unit.

The plan is laid out in a ‘U’ shaped format with bedrooms and bathrooms gathered at the ends of the ‘U’. The Kitchen is the focus of the apartment and is at the center with the living spaces branching off it. Both the dining room and pool room are surrounded by sliding glass doors so that a variety of conditions and uses can be established. The kitchen has a backlit glass ceiling with stained oak cabinetry and stone countertops. The materiality of this space further emphasizes that it is the heart of the apartment.
