A Pop-Up Shop for the New York City Football Club, running from September to October alongside the start of soccer season incorporating event, play, and retail spaces.

#

For the start of soccer season this fall, we worked closely with the New York City Football Club to create this interactive retail space by the High Line. Placed directly under the 14th street entrance to the city’s iconic elevated park, the pop-up shop was the site of weekly podcasts, player interviews, viewing parties, and children’s workshops.  Visitors were also able to purchase game tickets at in-store stands.

The cellar level soccer field presented a special challenge for approval and permitting; the previously flooded basement had to be converted into a completely kid-friendly space, where the NYCFC hoped to host classes and workshops all month long. The final product evoked the classic New York City atmosphere while being a clean and bright environment.

The rooftop was fitted with equipment throughout the month for multiple events; pictured bottom right. Located right next to the High Line, the rooftop boasted views of both the park and of the Hudson River.

The project was only going to run for one month and as such it didn’t make sense (or have time) to submit for a full CoO change to meet our program requirements. Instead through consultation with our Expediter, KMA, we proposed to submit for two separate Temporary Place of Assembly (TPA) permits that would cover us for a range of occupancies from underground soccer, 145 person events on the ground floor through to 100 people on the roof for night-time events. In particular the occupancy of the basement required a series of special actions as the CoO limited occupancy to Storage usage only.
