Renovation of one and a half floors of an existing Catholic Diocese school with a full upgrade of lighting throughout the building

We collaborated with Andersen-Miller Design on the design, documentation, and construction administration for the phased renovation of a 47,500 square foot disused educational space.  The building was originally built in 1960 by the Brooklyn Catholic Diocese and required reworking of some areas, general maintenance and new finishes.

The construction took place over two summers (to fit in with the school summer recesses) and involved careful coordination with the contractor and the school administrators to ensure that the schedule was met and there were no delays to the commencement of the school year.

Our work was Phase 4 in a four phase project and had the most extensive new construction components of all the phases. The client elected to use a different contractor for this final phase of work and one of the challenges was ensuring continuity of finishes between the different phases of construction. In particular where new wood doors had been installed in previous phases different to the building’s originals, we made sure to find a match that tied together all three conditions in a cohesive blend. New lighting was installed throughout the whole school which meant even in rooms that had been renovated previously we were installing lighting, patching and painting ceilings to leave them in a finished condition.
